Daisyhead // In Case You Missed It
Written by J.M
Opening with three minutes of melancholy yet hopeful instrumentals that open into the first lyrics of the album, Daisyhead's In Case You Missed It evokes the feeling of driving with friends at sunset on one of the last summer nights.
While all of the songs sound specific to Daisyhead, the steady, simple beats, bittersweet vocal melodies, and straightforward lyrics carry a distinct nostalgia for late 90's, early 2000's alternative rock.
The shining element of this album is the way these familiar elements are at times turned on their head, or twist just off center enough to be surprising and fresh. The songs on the album that resonate the most for those reasons are the opening track "Hold the Door," title track "In Case You Missed It," and "Our Last Exchange," which appears midway through the album.
Overall, In Case You Missed It has a clear pathos appeal and solid, if somewhat predictable, music. While songs toward the end of the album feel somewhat interchangeable, the musical depth and interest present in the first and last tracks prove that Daisyhead can deliver.
