The Faim // Summer Is A Curse
Written by Kayla Albee
Alternative rock pop four piece The Faim come to us from Perth in Western Australia. The band consists of Josh Raven on lead vocals, Michael Bono on lead guitar, bass, and vocals, Stephen Beerkens on bass and keyboard, and Sean Tighe on drums and percussion. Their debut EP, Summer Is A Curse, was released today.
The opening track which doubles as the title track is similar to Fall Out Boy's M A N I A in that it blends pop beats and an electronic force that supports the driving chorus. It comes in hot and sets a high expectation for the entire album.
The second track, "A Million Stars," doesn't quite meet the mark as it's reminiscent of "Tonight Tonight" from Hot Chelle Rae. While it's a laid back song that's best suited for hangin' with pals as the summer draws to an end, there's not much in the way of lyrical insight.
As the EP comes to an end, "My Heart Needs To Breathe" is a stand out number that mixes pop and rap-rock elements within the first 60 seconds, keeping the listener on their toes.
The Faim blends pop-reggae with alt-indie to give a fresh spin to a familiar genre. They create a carefree summertime feeling with upbeat songs, high-energy beats, and easy to remember lyrics. With pop-culture references ranging from "Billie Jean" to NXS, this is a straight up fun album.
Having worked with John Feldmann (blink-182, All Time Low, + Good Charlotte) The Faim are on the right track to attain mainstream success. Seeing as they've had the opportunity to tour with Sleeping With Sirens, PVRIS, and other high level artists, The Faim are an artist to keep on your radar as we're confident that they'll continue gaining momentum following the release of this EP.
