Trivium recently brought their The Sin And The Sentence World Tour to the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville and we were fortunate enough to check out the show. Trivium have been on the road for what seems like forever in support of their last album, The Sin And The Sentence, and brought Avatar and Light The Torch along on this run.

Light The Torch, fronted by Howard Jones (Blood Has Been Shed, Killswitch Engage), took to the stage first and set the tone for the rest of the night. Howard’s seemingly flawless transitions from aggressive screams to clean vocals is something that is always a pleasure to hear and witness. The half hour set was full of energy, sweat, and even a few jokes. The band are out in support of their album Revival, which came out earlier this year.

If you have never seen Avatar perform, change that. The Gothenburg natives are out supporting their latest record, Avatar Country, and did not disappoint. Theatrics have always been a part of rock and metal, but Avatar bring a whole new level to the table and it shines throughout their show. From the moment vocalist Johannes Eckerström took the stage the crowd was hooked and proceeded to sing along and bang their heads throughout the entire set.

Trivium are a band that I first discovered back when Ascendancy was released, and while I have enjoyed their music since then, I had not seen them perform since that touring cycle. The band has grown and matured in those 13 years and you can see that in their performance. As soon as the band came out and started ripping into “Betrayer” you could feel how sonically tight the band have become and truly perfected their craft.

They tore through tracks spanning their entire discography, including old favorites “A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation” and “Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr”. The band are finishing up their touring cycle for The Sin And The Sentence and we’re excited to see what’s next for the band.
