MC Lars and Koo Koo Kanga Roo recently performed in Nashville, and we were there to capture it! Rocketown has three separate stage areas (I'm using that term loosely as one of the areas does not in fact have a stage, and instead just has a floor space for the band to use), and this show took place in The White Building, which has the smaller of the two actual stages. It was the perfect venue for this tour!

Due to MC Lars having performed at both Vans Warped Tour and FEST this year, I expected his show in Nashville to have a larger turn out, but it ended up being a smaller, more intimate performance which is still enjoyable in my book!

I was incredibly surprised by the demographic -- the crowd was mostly made up of teachers, parents, and small children. Based off of the festivals that MC Lars has been at in the past, I thought that there would be more adults and less (if any) children. It was definitely shocking.

However, it's important for kids and young teens to have a place to go to see live music, and this night is one that they will likely remember for a long time. Hell, I wish that my parents would have taken me to a show like that when I was a kid!

Starting off the performance with "Lars Attacks!", the crowd participation was high, as MC Lars instructed the audience to chant the lyrics "Lars Attacks!" back at him whenever he said it. Leaving out the last part of the song ("Got Wall-E in my rearview telling me his knees hurt / What?! No we didn't have sex! / Wall-E's a robot so we can't have sex!") he moved into the next track.
Do you like Rick and Morty? If you’re one of the few people like myself who has never seen an episode, don’t worry! You’ll still likely dig the next tune, "The Rick And Morty Song I Made With Beefy".

Seemingly the most catchy and “put on repeat” worthy song on the set list was “Mr. Raven” — the chorus of “Who's that (who's that) rapping? / Who's that rapping at my chamber door? / Mr. (mister) Raven! / All up in my grill like, "Nevermore".

MC Lars is the total package, complete with a totally retro Nintendo cartridge chain. If you haven't seen him perform live yet, you're missing out!

Koo Koo Kanga Roo, an upbeat, dance inducing duo made up of Bryan and Neil, had a gigantic inflatable rainbow on the stage which automatically set the mood for a fun night. Their set ended up being a huge dance party, which included Bryan and Neil running out into the crowd multiple times to sing with fans who clearly loved the interaction!

With lighthearted and comical lyrics, Koo Koo Kanga Roo are well suited for festivals, one-off shows, and even children's programs--  it's safe to say that they certainly pull fans from a wide age range.

"Cat Party" was a hit and the group even passed a stuffed animal cat out into the crowd to crowd surf around. (I mean, who wouldn't want to go to a cat party...?)

Their set also included 'Wobbly Man", "Ninja Training", and "Unibrow", and ended with "Awesome Rainbows". Since their lyrics are short and sweet, they're easily memorable for younger fans, and fun to sing along with for older fans who are there to have a good time. I personally have seen Koo Koo Kanga Roo perform at Vans Warped Tour in the past, so the difference between the two shows was a bit of a surprise to me.

If you're in the mood for a gigantic dance party, rainbow props, and songs about cats, fanny packs, and dinosaurs, you seriously need to check out Koo Koo Kanga Roo!
