Reel Big Fish & The Aquabats! Bring Their Co-Headlining Tour To Cannery Ballroom
Venue: Cannery Ballroom
Date: July 5, 2019
Reel Big Fish brought their co-headlining tour with The Aquabats! to Cannery Ballroom on July 5th. With support from Dog Party, this show offered a mixed genre bill and made for an eventful night. We hope you brought your dancing shoes!
Sisters Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles make up the dynamic duo known as Dog Party. With extensive tour experience already under their belt, they kicked off the night with straight forward rock & roll. The pair effortlessly owned the stage, with light banter between songs, and Lucy shared with the crowd that earlier in the day she had fallen in love at Nashville’s very own Carter Vintage Guitars.
The Aquabats! have been around for 25 years at this point, and attracted a diverse group of fans for this show. There were a large amount of kids there specifically to see them — they likely were familiar with the band from their YouTube channel.
Their set had something for everyone: there were videos playing on a side stage screen with special clips for each song, epic dance moves, fun props, and two young fans were invited to crowd surf while on top of pizza shaped pool floats — talk about a night to remember!
You would have thought that The Aquabats! wore the crowd out once their major dance party ended, but fans were equally as pumped for Reel Big Fish to take the stage. Reel Big Fish treated the crowd to both new and old material, including “Life Sucks…Let’s Dance!” which serves as the title track from their most recent album and “The Kids Don’t Like It” from their 1998 album Why Do They Rock So Hard?
Often times, fans only want to hear a band’s old classics, so it was nice to see the crowd be so receptive to their stacked set list. They even included a few surprise covers! Who doesn’t like to sing along to “Don’t Stop Believin’” at the top of their lungs?!
