Jared Minnix // Virginia Rose
Written by Kayla Albee
Nashville based by way of Virginia indie pop artist Jared Minnix has released a catchy new single titled "Virginia Rose," which is the title track to Minnix's anticipated six track release. While Jared has extensive experience as a touring lead guitarist for big name country artists Lee Ann Womack and Chase Rice, this single strays away from country and finds its home nestled comfortably between radio worthy pop and self reflection inducing personalized indie.
Opening with the subtle sound of a rain shower, "Virginia Rose" is simple, sleek, and classy, complete with easy R&B infused pop beats that just make sense paired with Minnix's smooth vocals. While the electronic-inspired outro adds an aspect that's not necessarily needed, it doesn't hurt.
Lyrics such as "Sometimes it takes the rain / To give you what you need despite the pain" and "I'll hope you'll stay / though seasons change" are really quite stark, without being trite. Heartbreak is a tried and true topic for musicians spanning across the genre spectrum, but that doesn't mean that it's over done.
When an artist can give a fresh spin to songs about love and loss, they're an artist to keep on your radar. In this case, say "hello" to mature lyrics that explore the reality of a love lost.
